Black Star Polo, a San Diego non-profit, is promoting the sport of water polo in the country of Ghana. Prince Kofi Asante Sefa-Boakye, who founded Black Star Polo in 2021, has been one of the leading forces in growing water polo through the Awutu Winton Club — representing 7+ teams across three regions of Ghana.
Introducing a new sport leads to a lot of comedy… or “enthusiastic confusion” as Prince Asante likes to say. For example, when he handed out water polo caps with the 2 protective cups which cover the ears, one of the athletes remarked, “Oh water brasserie… a water bra.”
