Gratitude on Giving Tuesday

December 2, 2025

There’s a little song my daughters used to recite back in their preschool days that has been stuck in my head lately:

“The more that I give, The more I’ve got to give.
It’s the way that I live, It’s what I’m living for.”

These words remind me that generosity isn’t about losing something; it’s about growing something.

Our quote for today is from George Bernard Shaw (via Jeff Goldblum & Paula Roemer :). It sums up exactly how I feel about our community:

“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature… I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can…

Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
